OK, so you always hear on tv how Milan is one of the fashion capitals of the world, and because of this my partner (who is a tailor by trade) insisted that we take a side trip to norther Italy while he was visiting me in Switzerland. The train ride through the Swiss alps was amazing, but once we pulled up to the ‘burbs of Milan we started to doubt that this place would compare to some of the more beautiful cities we had already visited. And we were right to doubt! It was probably the constant rain, but overall Milan turned out to be a bit of a Debbie Downer…Having said that there were a few highlights to the trip…
The first being our hotel, which was located about 5 minutes from Milan’s central train station. The room was uber-modern and beautiful, and the concierge was very friendly and spoke perfect English (a major plus, because I speak no Italian at all). He also had the exact same birth date as me
Milan’s Duomo – is the third largest cathedral in the world. The inside was creepy, but beautiful.
Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle II is a huge covered mall where most major fashion shows happen. I
Dinner at a nearby restaurant that the hotel recommended. It took us about 20 minutes to find it because it was down a little alley, but the risotto, pizza, and wine were amaaaaaazing.
The only downer was a fat man that looked like Newman from Seinfeld who was at the table beside us slurping his food and talking to his ‘mamma’ on the phone.
A busy pseudo-pedestian street leading up to the castello. We stopped at a little shop along the way for gelato.
